Claypool was drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020. His rookie year showcased his potential with impressive stats: 62 catches for 879 yards and nine touchdowns. However, since then, his journey has been tumultuous.
After being traded to the Chicago Bears in October 2023, he played 12 games that season but only managed eight catches for 77 yards and one touchdown. His last appearance was on January 7, 2024, where he recorded a single catch for just three yards.
In 2025, Claypool faced further setbacks. He was released by the Buffalo Bills after suffering a toe injury during training camp. This led to a complete absence from the league that season.
On July 3, 2025, he announced his intention to make an NFL comeback. “I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align,” he shared. “I will work my way into the position to show off what’s been suppressed these last two years.” His determination shines through as he tries out with seven other hopefuls at the Packers’ minicamp.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur commented positively on Claypool’s condition: “He’s had some great film out there. He’s been productive and he looks like he’s in great shape. And he’s big. We’ll see how it goes.” These encouraging words may signal a new chapter for Claypool.
