Utz Quality Foods has announced a recall of five flavors of potato chips due to potential salmonella contamination. This issue stems from dry milk powder sourced from California Dairies, Inc. The recall affects certain varieties of Zapp’s and Dirty potato chips.
The company issued the recall on October 18, 2023, after discovering that the dry milk powder tested positive for salmonella, prompting an immediate response to ensure consumer safety. No illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall so far.

- Nine separate varieties of potato chips are included in the recall.
- The recalled products have a ‘Best By’ date ranging from August 3, 2026, to August 31, 2026.
- Consumers are advised not to eat the recalled chips and either dispose of them or return them for a refund.
According to the FDA, salmonella can cause serious infections, particularly in children and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may appear within six hours and can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain.
Utz Quality Foods has reassured consumers that they have not received any reports of illness related to these products. They are actively working with retailers to check inventories for the affected items.
