Kenneth Walker III’s Transition to Kansas City
Kenneth Walker III, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted at No. 41 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, has officially signed a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal is worth up to $45 million, with $28.7 million guaranteed.
Walker, the Super Bowl MVP for Super Bowl LX, had a standout season in 2025, recording 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns. His performance included a remarkable 161-yard outing in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots, solidifying his reputation as a key player in high-stakes games.
During his time with the Seahawks, Walker averaged 4.4 yards per carry and scored a total of 31 touchdowns. He finished 22nd among running backs in PPR scoring last season and contributed significantly during the Seahawks’ playoff run, accumulating 417 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns in three postseason games.
The Chiefs, who had a disappointing 6-11 season last year, ranked 25th in rushing yards, with Kareem Hunt leading the team with only 611 rushing yards. Walker’s addition is seen as a crucial move to enhance their running game, providing the big-play ability that the team has been lacking. “Walker gives the Chiefs what they’ve desperately needed from their running game: some big-play ability,” commented an analyst.
Head coach Andy Reid acknowledged the need for improvement, stating, “Somewhere, you’d like to have a few bigger plays in that area.” Walker’s signing is expected to address this gap effectively.
Walker confirmed the news on social media, posting a photoshop of himself in a Kansas City uniform, signaling his excitement for the new chapter in his career. The transition from one title-winning team to another has generated considerable buzz among fans and analysts alike.
As the Chiefs prepare for the upcoming season, uncertainties remain regarding Patrick Mahomes’ status for the start of the season. Details remain unconfirmed.
With Walker now on the roster, the Chiefs are looking to revitalize their offense and make a stronger push in the upcoming NFL season.
