“She was seen driving with extreme indifference to the value of human life,” stated the Lexington Police Department following a shocking incident early Sunday morning.
Kaydence Carpenter, 20, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. in downtown Lexington after her Tesla plowed into a group of pedestrians, injuring at least four individuals, some of whom suffered possibly life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses reported that Carpenter was driving over a curb and into the crowd, prompting immediate concern from bystanders. Video footage captured the moments leading up to the crash, showing Carpenter arguing with individuals before the incident unfolded.
Upon arrival, police observed Carpenter exhibiting signs of intoxication, including bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the distinct smell of alcohol. “The injuries to the pedestrians had the possibility of being life-threatening,” the police added, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Despite these indications, Carpenter refused to take a breathalyzer test and failed her field sobriety test. She was subsequently charged with four counts of second-degree assault, first-degree wanton endangerment, DUI, reckless driving, and violating alcohol premises laws by allowing a person under 21 in her vehicle.
After posting a $5,000 bond, Carpenter was released from the Fayette County Detention Center. However, a judge has suspended her driver’s license until the case is resolved, emphasizing the serious nature of the charges against her.
Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 14, where further developments in this case are anticipated. Carpenter was also found with a fake ID at the time of her arrest, adding another layer to the legal challenges she faces.
This incident has raised significant concerns within the Lexington community regarding public safety and the responsible use of vehicles, especially in crowded areas. As the investigation continues, many are left wondering about the implications of such reckless behavior.
Details remain unconfirmed as the community awaits more information regarding the victims and their recovery.
