What changes are coming to Fortnite?
Epic Games is raising the price of Fortnite’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, to help cover increasing operational costs. This price increase will take effect at the start of the next battle royale season on March 19, 2026.
As part of this adjustment, the $8.99 pack will now provide 800 V-Bucks instead of the previous 1,000. Similarly, the $22.99 pack will offer 2,400 V-Bucks down from 2,800, while the $36.99 pack will now include 4,500 V-Bucks instead of 5,000. The largest pack, priced at $89.99, will now offer 12,500 V-Bucks instead of 13,500.
Players subscribed to the monthly Fortnite Crew membership will also see a reduction in their V-Bucks, receiving 800 instead of 1,000.
What is happening with Save the World?
In addition to the changes in V-Bucks pricing, Fortnite’s Save the World mode will become free-to-play on April 16, 2026. This transition aims to welcome more players to the game across various platforms, including PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Cloud, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
Sales of the current version of Save the World will end at 8:00 PM ET on March 11, 2026. However, current owners will retain their founder’s benefits, which include V-Bucks and special bundles containing in-game items.
It is important to note that the original Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will not support Save the World due to technical limitations. Epic Games confirmed that the building and AI functions require resources that these devices lack.
Players will still have opportunities to earn V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, and Storm Shield Defense missions after the transition to free-to-play.
As Epic Games continues to adapt Fortnite to meet the demands of its player base, the company acknowledges that “the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot.” Details remain unconfirmed regarding future updates and changes beyond these announcements.
