Darron Lee Charged with First-Degree Murder
Darron Lee, a former NFL linebacker, has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of Gabriella Carvalho Perpétuo. The incident occurred in Hamilton County, Tennessee, where Perpétuo was found dead in a home on March 10, 2026.
Lee, 31, allegedly stabbed Perpétuo to death last month and reportedly consulted ChatGPT about how to handle an unresponsive person before calling the police. Authorities stated that he waited approximately 12 hours after the incident to report it.
District Attorney Coty Wamp described the scene, stating, “Mr. Lee was in a home with a female (who) was, for lack of a better term, beaten to death.” Blood was found throughout the residence, and Perpétuo suffered multiple types of trauma, including stab wounds and bruises.
Lee was selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New York Jets, where he played three seasons before moving on to the Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. His NFL career spanned five seasons, with a brief stint in Buffalo where he played two games.
Following his arrest, Lee was held without bond after a judge’s order, and his case has been bound over to a grand jury. Prosecutors have indicated that Lee is eligible for the death penalty, although it remains unclear whether they will pursue this option.
In a chilling statement, Lee allegedly expressed confusion about the situation, saying, “Don’t know what to do right now, fiancée did her crazy thing again and now she’s messed up, I wake up and she has two swollen eyes (I didn’t do anything, self inflicted) she stabbed herself, slit her eye? Idk but she isn’t waking up or responding, what do I do?” This raises further questions about his mental state and the circumstances leading to the incident.
As the investigation unfolds, the involvement of artificial intelligence in the crime has drawn significant attention. Prosecutors have stated that Lee used AI to help carry out the murder, prompting discussions about the ethical implications of AI in criminal behavior.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the full extent of the evidence against Lee and the prosecution’s strategy moving forward. The case continues to develop as authorities gather more information and prepare for the upcoming grand jury proceedings.
