Christopher Knight recently opened up about a near-romantic relationship with his former co-star Eve Plumb, revealing he wasn’t ready for the connection she desired. The two actors starred together on The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974, playing siblings in the beloved television sitcom.
After the show ended, Eve Plumb shared that she and Christopher Knight went on a date. However, Knight admitted he felt unprepared for a romantic relationship at that time. “Eve was more mature than me very early [and] always had… her claim on me, but I wasn’t there,” he reflected.
Looking back, Knight realized their mutual feelings came too late, as the show was wrapping up. Eve described their date as “sweet” but noted they were simply too good of friends to make the leap into romance. Both actors have remained friends over the decades, keeping in touch through monthly Zoom calls alongside their spouses.
In her memoir Happiness Included: Jan Brady and Beyond, Eve wrote about their attempts at romance. She recalled moments filled with laughter and resignation when they both acknowledged they would always be like siblings. “Any attempts at making out that evening ended with laughter and resignation that we’d always be sister and brother, even in real life,” she said.
Christopher Knight likened their near-romance to “getting a kiss on two different trains right as they separate.” This metaphor encapsulates the bittersweet nature of their connection—close yet never quite crossing into something deeper.
Both actors have moved on with their lives; Eve married Ken Pace in 1995, while Christopher tied the knot with Cara Kokenes in 2016. Despite these changes, their friendship remains intact.
Their story serves as a reminder of how friendships can evolve from childhood connections into lasting bonds. Though they may not have become a couple, their enduring friendship is a testament to the special ties formed during their time on The Brady Bunch.
