Aaron Jones Agrees to Revised Contract
“Jones has agreed to cut his base salary to $5.5 million as part of those changes,” reported Tom Pelissero, highlighting the significant adjustment in the running back’s contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
As part of the new agreement, Jones’ base salary for the 2026 season will be $5.6 million, with $5 million guaranteed. This marks a notable reduction from his initial scheduled salary of $10 million for the year.
In the 2025 season, Jones played 12 games, rushing for 548 yards and scoring two touchdowns. His performance was hampered by a hamstring injury that caused him to miss five games, contributing to his lowest total of 747 yards from scrimmage since his rookie season.
Jones, who is now 31 years old, has spent the past two seasons with the Vikings after a successful seven-year stint with the Green Bay Packers. During his time with the Packers, he became the third all-time leading rusher in franchise history, accumulating 5,940 yards and 45 rushing touchdowns.
In 2024, Jones achieved a career-high of 1,138 rushing yards, showcasing his capability as a top running back. However, in 2025, he was positioned as the team’s No. 2 running back behind Jordan Mason, which may have influenced the decision to restructure his contract.
According to Sam Robinson, “The sides agreed on a reworked deal that positions the veteran running back to play a third season in Minnesota.” This agreement comes after the Vikings had considered releasing Jones if no trade materialized before the cap-compliance deadline.
Robinson also noted that the Vikings had previously dangled Jones in trade talks, indicating that his future with the team was uncertain prior to this revised contract.
With this new deal, Jones aims to continue contributing to the Vikings’ offense while navigating the challenges of a competitive NFL landscape.
As the 2026 season approaches, the Vikings and their fans will be watching closely to see how Jones adapts to his new contract and role within the team.
